One-on-One with Swope Health: Patricia Stoufer

Swope Health announces a new edition of its podcast, One on One with Swope Health, featuring Patricia Stoufer, PattiKaKes Production Writer/Producer.

Eric Wesson, founder and publisher of The Next Page KC, a newspaper focused on the Black community, hosts the show’s conversations with Kansas Citians about issues of importance to the community’s health and wellbeing.

Patricia is a Kansas City-based screenwriter, playwright, and producer who, since 2012, has developed original works that blend humor, faith, and emotion. PattiKaKes is the production company that handles casting, staging, logistics, and other operational elements to bring her stories to life.

In this podcast episode, Patricia describes the journey that led her to pursue her craft of storytelling – a path that included raising a family, 32 years of work at Ford Motor Co., and a successful battle with breast cancer. Patricia, a native of Kansas City, talked with Eric about how she began writing, first in the form of memorial poems.

“Words came easy to me,” she noted. She has written a TV series, four gospel plays, and a movie script. Her first production is called “Three TT’s and a Nana,” a comedy about sisterhood, secrets, and second chances.

The show premieres at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Scottish Rite Temple, 1330 Linwood Blvd., Kansas City. The show stars Emmy-Award winner Tony Terry and features Darcus Speed Gates. General admission tickets are $25.

Patricia also talks about her journey with breast cancer, including how she had been receiving regular mammograms every six months and had experienced several biopsies. In the six months between screenings, she felt something but waited for the next mammogram, which led to the diagnosis. She had a double mastectomy followed by 18 weeks of chemotherapy.

She prayed for strength to fight cancer and became convinced she would survive. “While going through this, I was thinking of stories to write,” she said. “I think we’ve all got a gift from God. I am a storyteller, I wanted to use the gifts God gave me.”

The script for “Three TT’s and a Nana” took her seven days to write and is based on her personal friendships. The title relates to intensely devoted aunt-like friends and a grandmother who wind up living together, with similarities to the TV series “The Golden Girls,” she said.

Patricia is already working on her next productions, thanks to support of Shawn Edwards, the FOX 4 News film critic who is restoring the Boone Theater, future home of the Black Movie Hall of Fame.

Patricia credited Shawn as “the one who gave me the courage and said, ‘yes you can do this.’” She describes the encounter “like God opening a door.” Thanks to Shawn, the Boone Theater will be home to her future productions.

In her works, Patricia says she wants to let people see her faith, while reaching people where they are, providing laughter and emotion, with positive energy.
